How Can I Use My Degree From IUPS?

Real-World Paths to Meaningful Work

Graduates of IUPS are authors, coaches, educators, entrepreneurs, artists, and healers. Our programs support students in building careers that combine academic depth, personal growth, and real-world impact.

While we are not an accredited institution, and our degrees are not designed for traditional licensure, there are many creative, legal, and fulfilling ways to apply your degree—especially in the expanding fields of mental health coaching, integrative wellness, education, consulting, and conscious leadership.

Career Pathways for IUPS Graduates

Our alumni have gone on to become:

  • Healers & Practitioners – Offering integrative, somatic, or spiritual healing modalities in private practice.

  • Educators – Teaching in institutions, or leading workshops, retreats, and online courses.

Can I Use My Degree to Practice as a Therapist?

That depends on your state’s laws and whether you hold a license.

If you are already licensed:

Many IUPS graduates are already licensed professionals (e.g. LMFTs, LCSWs, psychologists, coaches, or clergy) who use our programs to enhance their scope of practice, meet CE requirements, or deepen their theoretical foundation.

If you are not licensed:

IUPS degrees do not lead to licensure. However, there are legally compliant ways to offer services outside of traditional therapy licenses.

Here’s what you can do:

Offer non-clinical services such as:

  • Mental health coaching

  • Personal development coaching

  • Spiritual counseling

  • Educational consulting

  • Start your own wellness practice

  • Work in private, nonprofit, or spiritual settings that don’t require state licensure

  • Pursue certification through alternative credentialing bodies

  • Use your degree to publish, teach, lead workshops, or create online educational content

✅ Important: If you're offering services in mental health or wellness, you must be transparent about your credentials and avoid using protected titles like “psychologist” or “therapist” unless you're licensed to do so.

Staying Compliant & Ethical

You can absolutely do meaningful work without a license—as long as you're informed and clear about the limits of your scope of practice.

We recommend:

  • Researching your state’s legal definitions of therapy and counseling.

  • Avoiding language that implies diagnosis or treatment of mental illness if you're unlicensed.

  • Using clear disclaimers on your website and materials.

  • Considering legal support or professional coaching associations that provide liability coverage and ethical guidelines.

  • Operating under titles such as:

    • Wellness Coach

    • Life Coach

    • Transformational Coach

    • Integrative Practitioner

    • Personal Development Consultant

    • Spiritual Counselor (if consistent with your background/training)

IUPS Supports Your Journey

We’re here to support your career path, whether you're planning to:

  • Launch a private coaching or consulting practice

  • Write and publish
